More About
Nancy Finnegan has completed her 500-hour RYT as well as 40-hour Senior / Chair Yoga training at Stone Wave Yoga in Gardiner, NY. Completing this training in her seventies made her realize how important it is to bring yoga to those individuals who suffer from various physical limitations that come with aging bodies. Nancy believes that Yoga can and should be modified for these Seniors and that by bringing them to a safe and inviting environment with acceptance of physical limitations can help to create the time and space needed to keep their bodies flexible and reduce limited mobility issues. “Taking time to go through the routines of breathing, relaxation, and modifications allow our Seniors to open up not just physically but mentally, emotionally and spiritually.”

Being together during yoga and expressing concerns about limitations her students may be facing at each class, helps Nancy to focus on what is needed at that particular time. She has found that accepting this time of life and choosing to keep active and healthy is one of the best ways to reduce stress and tension. “Yoga for me is a continuing educational experience always learning new insight from other teachers, articles on yoga, the medical community, as well as feedback from my students. Their wellbeing is my calling. We may be getting older, but we are still living well and striving to be healthy.”

About how Nancy incorporates Yoga into her daily and professional life, “Working part time and participating in charity work, I use breathing, meditation and stretching to keep me focused. I encourage my peers to make yoga a part of their lives, offering my time and teaching skills to them.”
