What is Trauma Sensitive Yoga
Trauma sensitive yoga includes meditation, attention to breath and gentle movement — with special care taken to help participants develop a positive and empowered relationship to their own bodies.
Trauma sensitive yoga has been scientifically validated as an effective treatment for PTSD. It is especially effective for complex trauma and treatment resistant PTSD. It is also a wonderful therapy offering for other types of trauma.
Trauma sensitive yoga is about safety, predictability, accessibility, consistency, boundaries, language, and service.
Trauma sensitive yoga services may be covered by some health insurances.
Trauma sensitive yoga is an adaptive therapy to other mental health services.
Trauma sensitive yoga is a gift to the survivor.

Welcome
A global pandemic. Horrific acts of police violence. Political upheaval. The climate crisis. The opioid epidemic. School shootings. The list is long and seems to never end. We are living in an age of trauma.
Stone Wave is offering a 4-day, 3-night immersive Trauma Sensitive Yoga training program in the Hudson Valley (75 miles from Manhattan, 40 minutes from Poughkeepsie). Learn how trauma impacts our bodies, and how yoga can heal.
Trauma-Sensitive Yoga Training is for yoga teachers, educators, therapists, healthcare workers, and other wellness practitioners, or anyone working with trauma survivors.
The training will be held at Awosting Reserve and Club; a private oasis with waterfalls, hiking trails, locally sourced food and eco dome lodging facilities.
Meet your Facilitators
Liz Glover Wilson, Founder of Stone Wave, is so honored to partner with Cheryl Kiviat — to bring this Trauma Sensitive Yoga certification program to yoga teachers, social workers, educators, wellness providers, therapists and anyone looking to incorporate these methods.
The last two decades of neuroscience research proves trauma is stored in the body. Trauma rewires the nervous system, keeping one stuck in an exhausting state of fight; experiencing being “keyed up,” anxious and overreacting. Or, one can be stuck in flight mode; emotionally numb, depressed and disassociated from their body. These repeated sensations can result in one feeling like a stranger in their own bodies.
In the past two years, trauma cases have been on the rise and we believe that the modality of healing found in the yoga teachings can bring release and healing.
We are not physicians. We are yogis.
We are passionate women who believe in and know the power of yoga to release deep seeded trauma. We look forward to going on this journey with you!
