‘Optimizing Health With Chinese Medical Wisdom’

Hosted by Michael and Marika LaFemina, along with special guest instructors - join us for a rejuvenating weekend of beautiful nature, inspiring workshops, good people, and delicious food.

Rretreat starts Saturday at noon with vegetarian lunch, followed by yoga, hiking and Qi Gong around Minnewaska and/or a special art, journaling and restorative workshop. End your Saturday with an optional star-gazing and bonfire at Stone Wave, or private time to explore the region dinner.

Michael and Marika LaFemina will be leading a Sunday workshop that will delve into some of the wisdom of Chinese Medicine self care and how these simple teachings can have a profound impact on our everyday health.

Option to arrive on Friday for evening yoga classes at Stone Wave..


  • 12pm- arrival and picnic at Stone Wave: vegetarian sushi lunch, locally-harvested herbal tea

  • Afternoon options:

  1. Hike and Qi Gong in Minnewaska State Park (easy hike around the lake) with Michael and Marika LaFemina

  2. Groundwork: The Art of Release, a midday workshop of art, journeling and restorative yoga at Stone Wave, with Liz Glover-Wilson

  • Evening free for dinner, with optional star-gazing and bonfire at Stone Wave, or private time


  • 8 - 8:45am: Yoga or fitness class at Stone Wave Yoga

  • 9am: light breakfast and tea (provided)

  • 9:30 - 3:30: Workshop (Optimizing Health From a Chinese Medicine Perspective)

    • 9:30 - 10:20: Essentials of Yin-Yang, Rhythms of the day, Introduction to Dao Yin practice

    • break for tea

    • 10:30 - 11:20: Yin-Yang and the Cycles of a Day and Year

    • 11:30-12:30: Qi, Blood, and Essences

    • 12:30-1:15: Vegetarian lunch (provided)

    • 1:15-2:15: Qi Gong + Introduction to Five elements 

    • 2:25-3:30: Introduction to Five emotions 


$180 for adults ($150 for SWY Members), $60 for Children

Includes lunch Sat + Sun, breakfast on Sunday, and child care for Sunday (ages 4+ only)

For Sunday Child Care: children will be invited to have supervised free play time, do arts and craft projects, and enjoy mindful movement and/or yoga classes

About the Facilitators

Marika and Michael LaFemina are partners in life and the co-founders of Golden Light Acupuncture, PC, a holistic family practice that welcomes children and adults of all ages and stages - from prenatal, to pediatric and adult care.


Michael LaFemina

is a Licensed Acupuncturist, Meditation Teacher, and new dad! He holds two Masters degrees - one in Education and another in Acupuncture - and regularly teaches courses and workshops in NYC and around New Paltz. Fun fact - Michael spent two years living like a monk.


Marika LaFemina

is a Licensed Acupuncturist, Yoga Teacher, and new mom! Before acupuncture, she was a physiotherapist in Austria focusing on neonatal care. She co-hosts a bi-monthly Breastfeeding Circle at Stone Wave. Fun fact - Marika speaks five languages.

How to Arrive

By car: Stone Wave Yoga is located at 2694 US-44, Gardiner, NY 12525 (90 minutes north of NYC). Click here for directions.

By bus: Adirondack Trailways from Port Authority NY to New Paltz Bus Terminal. The studio is a short taxi ride away from the bus station (approximately 10-15 minutes). You will need to arrange for transportation to and from your accommodations as well

By train: MetroNorth to Beacon or Poughkeepise and take taxi to destination
